SNOW DAYS (UNIFORM DAY)
Due to the recent snow days, 2nd Platoon and 6th Platoon will wear their uniforms on the first day back to school and will be excused from last week's inspection.
Military Ball
Military Ball tickets are sale now through February 18th. Please see your designated platoon mil ball representative to buy tickets:

Tickets are $15 per ticket. If you have fundraised at least $100 you can receive 2 free tickets (you must ask for them, they will NOT be delivered). If you would like to bring another couple, please talk to C/CDR Dees or Captain Porter to have them approved BEFORE you buy tickets for them.
All male cadets are required to wear their full Winter Blues/SDB uniform to the ball. Female cadets may wear either a dress, dress pants/shirt, or their uniform to the ball. All dresses should be school appropriate (should come to at least about the knee). If you or your date arrive in the wrong attire, you will be asked to leave. Dinner will be served at the ball.
The Military Ball is on February 20th at the Dr. Kelly Leadership Building from 1830-2330. This is a fun event and we encourage all of you to attend!

Norfolk Trip
The Norfolk Field trip will be from December 2nd-4th this year. If you plan to attend, you will need to have both the permission slip and teacher approval sheet signed no later than Tuesday, December 1st. Also, you need to turn in $60 to either Captain Porter or Senior Chief Oaks by December 1st. Last, be sure to get two sets of khaki uniforms (khaki pants, shirt, belt, and garrison cover) for the trip no later than December 1st and be sure to sign up on the muster sheet in ROTC spaces. After December 1st, nobody may add their name to the list. You must have all C's or above in ALL classes to attend this trip--remember academics come first!
For those of you who will be attending, your uniform day will be on WEDNESDAY Dec 2nd. You will wear Winter Blues/SDBs all day and at roughly 1430 you will depart from spaces (still in uniform) to Norfolk NAS. There will be a zero tollerance for inappropriate behavior and disrespect on this trip. Please remember that you represent OPHS as well as the Navy, so you must be on your best behavior at all times. This trip is an extremely fun one and we encourage all of you to attend if possible.

14 teams competed in our home drill meet on Saturday, November 21st.
The drill meet ran very smoothly thanks to the efforts of the OPHS cadets!!
Roughly 50 OPHS cadets helped run the event and everyone did an
outstanding job and worked together well! This event will help us earn points
in our end of the year report, giving us a better shot at being a distinguished unit! THANK YOU AGAIN FOR ALL OF YOUR HELP!!
Also, Congrats to C/SA Via and C/SA Paine who were in the top 10 of 142 cadets in the knockout competition.

Seneca Valley Drill Meet
The drill team (consisting of 20 cadets) traveled to Seneca Valley High School to compete in a drill meet. The team had all around outstanding performances! The team placed 1st in UPI (inspection) and 2nd in color guard! JOB WELL DONE! Thank you to all of the cadets who participated and helped the team do an outstanding job! Keep up the good work!
TURN IN YOUR PAPERWORK!
ALL PAPERWORK IS DUE BY NOVEMBER 16th FOR A GRADE! The following sheets must be completed and turned in no later than November 16th to receive full credit: Standard Release Form and Health Risk Screening Form. After November 16th, your paperwork grade will drop 10% for every week it is late. The forms can be found under the LINKS section of this page (on the right hand side) as well as on the ROTC bulletin board in ROTC spaces. If you have any questions or concerns please contact C/LTJG Haun BEFORE November 16th. A list of people who are missing paperwork is posted in ROTC spaces by the muster sheets--PLEASE CHECK THE LIST FOR YOUR NAME!! In addition to a lower grade, pushups will be given out for not having paperwork in.
Physicals will be due by the end of the second grading period so be sure to schedule one if you haven't already.
TUESDAY/THURSDAY UNIFORM DAY THIS WEEK!
UNIFORM DAYS THIS WEEK WILL BE TUESDAY AND THURSDAY SINCE THERE IS NO SCHOOL ON WEDNESDAY. If you have class on a BLUE DAY (2nd or 6th platoon) you are to wear your uniform on TUESDAY NOVEMBER 10th. If you have class on a GOLD DAY/FIRST PERIOD you are to wear your uniform on THURSDAY NOVEMBER 12th. PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD!!

Veterans Day Parade
The unit marched in the Veterans Day Parade on November 7th in Old Town Manassas. All of the cadets did an outstanding job and represented OPNJROTC well! Thank you to all of the cadets who participated! The next parade will be on December 5th (Manassas Christmas Parade).

Cadet of the Month (October)
Congratulations to C/Moore from 2nd Platoon who won the Cadet of the Month title for the Month of October. C/Moore competed against three other outstanding cadets--C/Duzan, C/Harmon, and C/Miles. All of the competing cadets did an outstanding job! C/Moore has been awarded the COM cord and COM medal. Again, JOB WELL DONE to all of the cadets! The next Cadet of the Month Board will be held at the beginning of December.

OPNJROTC ON TV!!
PWCS-TV will be broadcasting a show on the Honor Flight for Veterans that several cadets from OPNJROTC participated in along with cadets from Stonewall Jackson's AFJROTC unit. The show will air on channel 1 (comcast cable)/channel 36 (verizon fios). The show times are as follows:

VETERANS DAY PARADE
THE VETERANS DAY PARADE IS BACK ON!--we were able to get a bus last minute and the Veterans Day Parade will be back on for everyone--including the general marching platoon. We need a lot of cadets to participate--the bigger our platoon looks the more points we get! All cadets should sign up in ROTC spaces if they plan to participate. Arrive at OP NO LATER THAN 0830 on Saturday Nov 7th. Come in full Winter Blues uniform--including cover, tie/necktab, tie clip. PLEASE BRING YOUR RELAXED FIT JACKETS--IF EVERYONE DOES NOT BRING THEM, WE CANNOT WEAR THEM--WE ALL HAVE TO LOOK THE SAME!!! Also, the staff (top 3), Color Guard, and PC (Rodriguez) are the ONLY people allowed to wear SDBs/Combo Covers for this event. If you are an officer/chief that is usually authorized to wear SDBs and you are not a member of the staff or color guard--you are to wear WINTER BLUES with a GARRISON COVER (be sure to have your rank on your cover if you are an officer/chief). Contact one of the staff members (C/CDR Dees, C/LCDR Parsons, or C/MCPO Wirtz) with any questions.

NS1 Testing Up
NS1s will be able to test up to the rank of Seaman Apprentice starting on Tuesday, November 10th. Testing will begin at 1410 in Senior Chief's room. Testing will be held every Tuesday and Thursday. Cadets have the option to either train or test on that day, but cannot do both on one day. A cadet must pass both the written and drill portions of the advancement test in order to recieve the advancement.

Homecoming Football Game
The honor guard performed during the half time show of the homecoming football game. Cadets formed a sword arch for the homecoming court to walk through. The honor guard was composed of 8 cadets: C/Dees, C/Parsons, C/Wirtz, C/Burnette, C/Burner, C/Mankin, C/Duplessis, and C/Via (the honorary NS1 chosen for outstanding drill performance).

Pep Rally
The annual homecoming pep rally was held on Firday, October 22nd. The color guard began the pep rally with the presentation of the colors and the national anthem sung by C/Parsons who recieved overwhelming applauses of approval by the students. After, the exhibition team performed and impressed the crowd with its finale--C/Duplessis spun a rifle while on top of C/Morrison's shoulders, C/Wirtz and C/Burnette raised C/Dees into the air with rifles all while C/Zuza and C/Stannard did a rifle spinning routine. The team recieved multiple compliments at the conclusion of the performance. Job well done to ALL of the cadets who represented OPNJROTC proudly at the homecoming pep rally!

Northwestern Drill Meet
The drill team traveled to Northwestern High School on October 17th to compete in the drill/academic meet. The team placed 1st in academics (C/Arango had a top individual score), 2nd in armed basic, 3rd in UPI, and 3rd in color guard. C/Burner and C/Duplessis won medals in the knockout competition. A total of 17 cadets participated in the event. JOB WELL DONE TO THE DRILL TEAM!! Outstanding performances! See you all at practice!

Oceana Air Show Field Trip
All permission slips are due NO LATER THAN WEDNESDAY (OCTOBER 14th) AFTERNOON along with $10. If you plan to attend the Field Trip on Friday, October 16th make sure you turn in your permission slip! On October 16th, go to your first period class and after announcements, report to NJROTC spaces. You should wear your ROTC tshirt and bring your ROTC hat with you. Please make sure you bring money to buy lunch and souvenirs. Cadets may bring electronic devices such as cell phones and iPods, but it is the cadet's responsibility to ensure that the items are not lost or damaged. We plan on returning around 1830, but our return time may vary depending on traffic. Parents, please make sure your cadet has a phone number he/she can reach you at in case the return time changes.

CADET OF THE MONTH
Congrats to C/Adams from 2nd Platoon who earned the Cadet of the Month title for September! C/Adams competed against 4 other outstanding cadets (C/Damron, C/Nix, C/McDonnel, C/Paine) and achieved the highest overall score. All of the competing cadets did an outstanding job and should be very proud to have been nominated to appear at the Cadet of the Month Board. The next COM Board will be at the beginning of November. Again, congrats to C/Adams and to all of the competing cadets!

OPNJROTC FUNDRAISER
Help OPONJROTC raise money by participating in our annual fundraiser! By sending letters out to family, friends, and businesses, you can help raise money that will be used to pay for buses, equipment, and multiple NJROTC trips! All donations are tax deductable! Please see Senior Chief Oaks or Captain Porter for letters to send out! Any cadet who raises $100 will be awarded two free tickets to military ball as well as a Unit Service Ribbon!

October 14th/15th will be the first WINTER BLUES/SERVICE DRESS BLUES uniform day. Refer to the Cadet Field Manual (Orange Book) for device measurement information. The CFM can be found online under the "Links" section of this page.
**If you are a senior that has Uniform Day on October 14th, wear your uniform to class on MONDAY, OCTOBER 12th. DO NOT wear your uniform on October 14th--you have a Senior Class field trip that day. **

DRILL-A-THON
This year's Drill-A-Thon was extremely successful! Roughly 60 cadets attended and participated in drill stations, knockout, and the platoon drill competition. Cadets drilled from 1500-1800 and had a blast, earning multiple prizes!

NAVY YARD COLOR GUARD
The color guard traveled to the Washington DC Navy Yard on Saturday, October 3rd and competed in the annual Navy Yard Color Guard Drill Meet. The team placed 2nd out of 15 and did an outstanding job! Congratulations to C/Arango, C/Mankin, C/Duplessis, and C/ Stannard! JOB WELL DONE!

Annapolis Orienteering Meet
The Orienteering Team traveled to Annapolis High School on Saturday, September 26th to compete. The team did outstanding and the cadets had a great time!

Haymarket Parade
The unit traveled to Haymarket on Saturday, September 19th for the annual Haymarket Parade. Roughly 50 cadets participated in the event. NEW CADET ORIENTATION
-To all new cadets attending the OPNJROTC orientation from August 31-September 4:
-Arrive Monday August 31st no later than 0700 so that we can be ready to begin promptly at 0730
-Arrive in PT gear (Plain white t-shirt, blue/black shorts, white socks, running shoes, water bottle). If you have asthma please bring an inhaler and inform the cadet staff during check-in.
-Bring with you a pair of khaki shorts, a second plain white t-shirt, shower gear (towel, soap, etc), paper and pencil, $25 (for unit shirt and ball cap), and ALL NEEDED PAPERWORK AND APPLICATIONS INCLUDING A COPY OF A RECENT PHYSICAL.
-Upon arrival, cadets will need to check in and will then be directed to their assigned platoon.
-Training is scheduled to end at approximately 1230 each day and any cadets wishing to join JROTC teams should attend daily practices after.
-Graduation ceremony for all cadets who complete the Orientation at 1045 in the school auditorium. Parents, family, and friends are encouraged to come!
-THERE WILL BE MODIFIED TRAINING ON THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 3rd, DUE TO THE OPHS FRESHMAN FESTIVAL. CADETS WILL BE GIVEN MORE DETAILS AT THE BEGINNING OF THE WEEK.

OPNJROTC FUNDRAISER CAR WASH
The OPNJROTC Car Wash will be held at the BP gas station off of Sudley Rd. (next to Manassas Mall and Hooters). Arrive at 0800 to help setup. Please bring LOTS OF TOWELS, buckets, sponges, brushes, etc. Depending on how well we do, the car wash will be over anywhere from 1300-1400. Please come and support the unit!
Admin Meeting
There will be an ADMIN meeting (ADMIN OFFICER/CHIEF, PAO OFFICER/CHIEF, PERS OFFICER/CHIEF, and RECRUITING OFFICER/CHIEF) on July 8th at 0830. Please inform C/LTJG Haun if you cannot attend.

Battalion Picnic
There will be a Battalion Picnic on Saturday, May 30th at Kings Dominion. The cost is $35 (does not include food so be sure to bring extra money). Money needs to be turned in to Captain or Senior Chief by THURSDAY, May 28th. We will be mustering at the school at 0715 and plan to leave shortly after 0730, please do not be late if you are attending (wear your ROTC tshirt!). If you are bringing your family you must ride to Kings Dominion with your family (there are not enough seats on the bus for everyone's family) we ask that you still meet at the school at 0715 so that you can be put on the muster sheet. If you know you are attending FOR SURE please make sure to sign up on the muster sheet in ROTC spaces to reserve your spot on the bus. While at Kings Dominion, cadets will be responsible for checking in with their assigned cadet officer so it is suggested that cadets bring a cell phone. Cadets are reminded to exhibit professional and polite behavior as they are representing OPNJROTC. If you have any questions please feel free to ask any of the cadet staff members, Captain Porter or Senior Chief Oaks.

CHANGE OF COMMAND CEREMONY
The Change of Command Ceremony is on May 20th. This is a mandatory event for all cadets. This ceremony is to recognize both the old and new cadet leadership. The Change of Command Ceremony will also serve as the final uniform inspection. Cadets need to arrive AT 1730. Blue Company will assemble on the cafeteria side of the school and Gold Company will assemble on the front entrance side of the school. Please bring a food dish that can at least feed your family, if not more. Parents, friends, and family are encouraged to come!
Garfield Athletic Meet
Our Athletics team traveled to Garfiled High School to compete in a Joint Service Athletics Meet. Our team placed second overall. JOB WELL DONE to all of the cadets who attended.

CASA RETRO DANCE
CASA is holding a Retro Dance fundraiser to help abused and neglected children on Saturday, April 25th. We will be helping run the event (similar to what we did for Evening Under the Stars). In order for this to be successful, our unit needs everyone to help and participate. Set up starts at 1400 (meet at Harris Pavilion in Old Town Manassas) and arrive at 1900 for the actual event. If you signed up for security, arrive in Summer Blues Uniform and if you signed up for food, arrive in your ROTC tshirt. We also need cadets to stay to help clean up.

Freedom Museum Color Guard
Congratulations to the color guard members who competed in the Freedom Museum color guard competition. Our color guard placed third in the competition. Job Well Done!

UPCOMING ROTC EVENTS
Check the calendar for upcomng NJROTC events (Volleyball Tournament, Bowie Drill/Athletic Meet, March of Dimes, CASA Retro Dance, Softball Tournament, LaPlata Orienteering Meet, Change of Command, and more!) We need everyone to participate!
Also, on May 2nd, there is a Jazz Festival that we will help run. On May 23rd (from 1230-1630), the Leadership Seminar Class will be hosting a car show in the Junior Parking Lot. The car show will serve as a fundraiser for the auto-tech and NJROTC programs. More information will be posted on what we need to do to help the Leadership class and to help run the event at a later date.
UNIFORM OF THE DAY FOR 3/4 and 3/5
REMINDER:
If you have uniform day tomorrow, 3/4 (blue day) or 3/5 (gold day), be sure to wear WINTER WORKING even if there is some kind of delay in the morning. If another snow day should happen the uniform dates will be moved to 3/5 and 3/6.

MILITARY BALL 09
Thanks to all of the cadets and guests who attended the 16th annual Military Ball. We had a great turnout and everyone enjoyed themselves. Special thanks to C/ENS Rodriguez who coordinated major planning aspects of the event and setup! For those of you who took pictures, information on how to purchase them will be posted in the near future.
Military Ball
The 2009 Military Ball will be held on February 28 from 1830-2330 at the VFW Hall (14631 Miniville Rd, 22173 Dale City). Tickets will go on sale Feb 9: $10 a ticket. THE LAST DAY TO BUY TICKETS IS THURSDAY, FEB 26. TICKETS WILL NOT BE SOLD AT THE DOOR. See C/LT Dees for tickets. If you are on the fundraiser list (raised at least $100) you should see C/LT Dees to recieve your two free tickets. All male cadets are expected to arrive in full winter blues/service dress uniform. Female cadets may wear either their uniform or a dress (dress must be AT LEAST to the knee--if you or your date arrive in inappropriate attire you will not be allowed in). Dinner will be served at the VFW hall and is included in your ticket purchase.
King George Drill Meet
The drill team traveled to King George High School on Saturday, Feb 21 to compete in a drill meet. The team placed 3rd in the Unit Personnel Inspection (UPI). The team had a great overall performance and did an outstanding job! JOB WELL DONE DRILL TEAM! The drill team will be competing in the Bowie regional meet in April!
ROTC WORKDAY
There will be an ROTC workday on February 14th for all cadets who need to finish work in preparation for the upcoming Area 5 Inspection (on Feb 18th).
ROTC IS OPENING AT 0830-0900.

IMPORTANT AREA FIVE INFORMATION
As stated in the official LOI from Area 5, ONLY THE CADET STAFF (BCO, BXO, MCPO, OPS, ADMIN, SUPP, Company COs, Company XOs, and Company SCPOs) AND COLOR GUARD ARE PERMITTED TO WEAR SDBs for the AREA FIVE INSPECTION, FEB 18th.
All other cadets, (even if you are normally permitted to wear SDBs--including PCs) are to wear full Winter Blue Uniform with a Garrison cover.
ROTC PICTURES
ROTC pictures will be taken on Feb. 4th and 5th (depending on which day is your uniform day). All cadets will be photographed and will be sent a card containing information on how to view/purchase pictures if desired.
Area 5 PRACTICE
The Battalion Staff, Company Staffs, Department Heads, all PCs, and all squad leaders need to stay after on February 4th and 5th to practice for the upcoming Area 5 Inspection.
JANUARY 20th
There is an inservice workday for all department heads as well as the drill team on JANUARY 20th. Department heads will have an opportunity to work in preparation for the Area 5 Inspection. Drill team members are expected to be present to practice for the upcoming drill meet on January 31st at Patuxent. There is a good possibility that we will have 2 hours of gym time to use--so it is IMPORTANT THAT ALL DRILL TEAM MEMBERS ATTEND! NJROTC spaces will be open from 1200-1600.

SCHOONER VIRGINIA TRIP
NJROTC cadets have been offered a great opportunity to experience life aboard the Schooner Virginia. There is a trip on April 3-9. Cadets will get to learn how to sail and will get to work alongside 10 experienced crew members. Food and sleeping arrangements are provided on the ship. The fee will be roughly $600 (after the use of a scholarship--we have been offered two). Any cadet interested in this trip needs a physical and should contact Captain Porter for more information. Several cadets attended last year and really enjoyed the experience!

USNA Athletic Meet
The athletics team traveled to the United States Naval Academy on Saturday, January 10th to participate in a field meet. The team placed 3rd in the "Tunnel of Love" and "Man Down" competitions. They placed 4th overall for the unsanctioned events. Cadets did an outstanding job! A total of 16 teams competed and the competition was fierce!
NORFOLK TRIP
This year's Norfolk trip is scheduled for March 11-14. We will depart from the school (after classes) on Wed. March 11. We will return on Saturday, March 14. The cost is $70 per cadet (includes food and boarding). More information about what to bring will be posted in the future, along with a permission slip. All cadets going must have at least a C in all of their classes to attend.

OPNJROTC Hoodies Available!
OPNJROTC Hoodies are now available. If you would like to order one, talk to Captain Porter. They are $25 each and they come as either a pull over or a zip-up hoodie. If you have ordered one, be sure to deliver the $25 to Captain Porter or the Supply Department ASAP so that you can get your hoodie!

OPNJROTC HOLIDAY CAROLING
Thank you to all of the cadets who participated in the OPNJROTC Holiday Caroling event on Thursday, December 18th. The cadets went to several houses to carol and ended the night by returning to Captain Porter's house for hot chocolate and popcorn. The event went well and the cadets did a great job!
MANASSAS CHRISTMAS PARADE

DR. KELLY BUILDING DEDICATION
Thank you to all of the cadets who participated in the Dr. Edward Kelly Leadership Center dedication ceremony on Friday, December 5th. The color guard did a flag folding ceremony that went very well. The battalion staff was recognized inside. Thanks again to all of the cadets who took the time to come out and give a memorable performance!

Cadet of the Month
Congratulations to the Cadet of the Month for November: C/Andres! She will be awarded the COM cord and medal to wear on her uniform. All of the participating cadets did a good job. C/Andres is the unit's third Cadet of the Month-- JOB WELL DONE!
The next COM board will be held at the beginning of January.

Cadet of the Month
Congratulations to the Cadet of the Month for October-- Cadet Noel! All of the participating cadets did an outstanding job. Cadet Noel will be awarded the COM cord and a COM medal. JOB WELL DONE!
The Cadet of the Month Board for the month of November will be held the first week of December. NS-1 cadets who are interested should seek a nomination from their respective PC.

OP DRILL MEET
The OP DRILL MEET WILL BE HELD ON SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 15th.
Cadets are needed to help run the drill meet. If you can attend, please sign up on the muster sheet in ROTC spaces. You should arrive at 0600 in the WINTER BLUES uniform. We will be setting up drill decks, running scores, working the concessions stand, managing drill decks, and more. In order for the drill meet to be successful we will need the help of everyone, so be sure to sign up! (Drill team is expected to be there!) There will be a knockout drill competition at the end of the drill meet that you can compete in ($2 a ticket). Depending on the weather, the drill meet should end at roughly 1530, but cadets will be needed to help clean up the gym and drill decks. All cadets who help will recieve hours towards their unit service ribbon and will recieve credit for an event towards their participation ribbon.

CADET OF THE MONTH
The Cadet of the Month Board for November will be held Thursday, November 13th, starting at 1415. An NS1 from each platoon will be nominated and is expected to be ready at 1410 (in full uniform). The selected Cadet of the Month will be awarded the COM cord and a COM medal (see pic).

HALFTIME SHOW
THANK YOU to all of the cadets who helped in putting on a
FANTASTIC halftime show for the last home football game of the year. The event ran very well and the cadets did an outstanding job. The performance was greatly appreciated by the crowd and
we greatly appreciate all of the cadets who took the time to participate.
Also, we would like to thank the SCA who generously funded the rental of the American flag, and allowed us to perform.

Air Rifle Match vs Flint Hill
Our Air Rifle team competed against the Flint Hill team on Tuesday the 28th. Our team did very well and won the match. The competing team of 5 people scored a total of 1153 points. The standings were as follows:

Uniform Switch
Starting on October 29th and 30th, we will be switching over to the Winter Blues and Service Dress Blues (for senior enlisted and officers) as the Uniform of the Day. If you have not already gotten your winter blues uniform, or need a new one, see C/LTJG Parsons, the supply officer.
AIR RIFLE MEET
There is an air rifle meet at the Fair Grounds on Tuesday the 28th. Meet at the Fair Grounds no later than 1730 because the competition will begin at 1800. See Captain Porter with any questions.
PT Test
The PT test is scheduled for October 27 and 28, depending on which day you have class. We will be running outside on the track so be sure to bring warm clothing. These scores will count as part of the color company competitions for the first quarter.
Northwestern Drill Meet
The drill team traveled to Northwestern, Maryland to compete in its first drill meet of the year. The team finished 7th overall out of 17. Our drill team finished 4th in armed basic and tied for 5th in color guard. This was a strong start for the season and the team's next meet will be November 22. Job well done to all of the cadets on the drill team!

NAVAL YARD C.G. COMPETITION/ HERNDON FIELD MEET
NAVY YARD COLOR GUARD
The color guard placed fourth in the 10th annual Navy Yard Color Guard Competition, hosted by OPNJROTC. The team placed fourth out of thirteen schools, losing to the third place team by only 1 point. This was a great effort by the team for its first meet. Also, thank you to the other cadets who attended and helped run the competition!
HERNDON FIELD MEET
Thank you to all of the cadets who attended the Herndon Field Meet! A total of 17 schools competed and competition was fierce.

PAX Orienteering
Congratulations to the Orienteering Team on
placing 3rd overall in the Patuxent Orienteering Meet on Saturday, October 4th. The team did very well and has placed in all of the meets so far this year!

Annapolis Orienteering
Congratulations to the Orienteering Team for an OUTSTANDING performance at the Annapolis Novice Meet. Twenty-two cadets participated and eight cadets won medals. We took 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the White B course and took 3rd in the White A course. We also won 2nd in the O Relay. This was an outstanding job for the team's first meet. JOB WELL DONE!

OCEANA/HAYMARKET PARADE

Thank you to all of the 81 cadets who attended the Oceana Air Show Field Trip. The trip was a great success and we all had fun! This will count as an event towards your participation ribbon.
HAYMARKET PARADE
Thank you to all of the cadets who attended the parade on Saturday. The battalion did very well and we recieved many compliments. Our next Parade is the Manassas Christmas Parade in December! This will also count as an event towards your participation ribbon.

Freedom Museum Field Trip
The Freedom Museum field trip was a great success! Cadets listened to four former POWs tell their stories and experiences. Thanks to all of the NS-3s and NS-4s that attended!

CASA Evening Under the Stars
The CASA Evening Under the Stars event was a great success. Despite all of the rain, cadets did a terific job and had fun. Thank you to all of the cadets who showed up to help!
As a unit, we put in about 13 hours of community service time, adding up to about 650 man hours. All cadets who attended will be recieving a community service ribbon. Job well done!

September 11th
We will be hosting a short memorial service on September 11th at the flag pole starting at 0700. Cadets who want to participate need to arrive in uniform at 0645 (or at 0700 if arriving by bus) and meet at the flagpole. There will be a flag raising ceremony and a short memorial reading. The ceremony should be over by 0710. Contact C/CDR Dean or C/Lt Dees with any questions.

USO Operation Care Package
BIG THANK YOU TO ALL THE CADETS WHO ATTENDED THE USO OPERATION CARE PACKAGE EVENT ON AUGUST 9th!
Cadets traveled to Fort Belvoir to assemble and stuff care packages for soldiers overseas. Cadets helped stuff a total of 15,000 care packages!! JOB WELL DONE!!

NEW CADET ORIENTATION
To all new cadets attending the OPNJROTC orientation from August 25-29:
-Arrive Monday August 25th no later than 0715 so that we can be ready to begin promptly at 0730
-Arrive in PT gear (Plain white t-shirt, blue/black shorts, white socks, running shoes, water bottle). If you have asthma please bring an inhaler and inform the cadet staff during check-in.
-Bring with you a pair of khaki shorts, a second plain white t-shirt, shower gear (towel, soap, etc), paper and pencil, $25 (for unit shirt and ball cap), and ALL NEEDED PAPERWORK AND APPLICATIONS INCLUDING A COPY OF A RECENT PHYSICAL.
-Upon arrival, cadets will need to check in and will then be directed to their assigned platoon.
-Training is scheduled to end at approximately 1230 each day and any cadets wishing to join jrotc teams should attend daily practices after.
-Graduation ceremony for all cadets who complete the Orientation at 1030 in the school auditorium. Parents, family, and friends are encouraged to come!
-THERE WILL BE NO TRAINING ON THURSDAY, AUGUST 28th due to the OP Freshmen Festival taking place.
